Welcome to idlehans photography

I am lucky enough to have the opportunity to provide a personal and intimate service to clients who wish the days, people and events most important to them to be sealed in memories forever. I aim to capture peoples personalities, their laughter and the atmosphere they create. I enjoy meeting and talking to people, working with them, to know them and to ensure that they are relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera. I can honestly say that I am passionate about photography and the smiles on faces that make it all worth while.

Michelle & Steve – Basingstoke

September 1, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Michelle and Steve got married at the Basingstoke Registry Office, Hampshire followed by a reception at the Weybrook Park Golf Club. I have to admit that we don’t often photograph weddings at registry offices, with many people now opting to have the ceremony in hotels so I was not sure what to expect. The registry office in Basingstoke has a lovely room with good light for pictures and to be honest, some of the nicest staff I have seen at any venue!  The slide show below provides a selection of pictures from the day... [Read the full story]

Helen & Chris – St Leonard’s Church Cliddesden, Alton House Hotel

August 20, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I knew Helen before she got married, I remember in a previous life working for a company she came for a week of work experience. That was some years ago, so it was a pleasure when she and Chris asked if I would photograph their wedding at St Leonard’s Church in Cliddesden near Basingstoke and the subsequent reception at the Alton House Hotel, a few miles down the road. We started early around 10am and went right through until about 9pm to make sure we captured both the preparations and the first dance, a long day but... [Read the full story]

Nicky & Simon – Stanwell House, Lymington

June 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Nicky & Simon chose Stanwell House, in Lymington, Hampshire for both their ceremony and reception. Stanwell House is a delightful independent boutique hotel in the heart of Lymington, about ten minutes walk from my house. Being so close meant that I could spend some time during the day, but also easily return in the evening for a few extra shots. The slide show below provides a selection of pictures from the day and should give you a ‘feel’ for the event. Bright sunshine, good food and a super venue, who... [Read the full story]

Charlie & Sam – Esseborne Manor

February 12, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Neil and I were lucky enough to take the pictures at Charlie and Sam’s Wedding at Esseborne Manor at the end of January this year. Its not the first time we shot a wedding there, as it was the choice of Gemma & David last summer but it was the first time that we had done a winter wedding there so the challenge was on to capture the day slightly differently as I knew we were not going to get outside. It was not until yesterday when I was checking the number of visitors I get to the site that I noticed a massive... [Read the full story]

Alison & Alan

October 4, 2008 · Leave a Comment

With a church wedding at St. Andrew’s Church, Medstead, Hampshire, and the reception at Marwell Zoo, Neil and I were assisted also by my brother Ned due to the distances between venues and the walk from main reception to the car park at Marwell. Alison and Alan were able to not only enjoy the great food and company amongst their guests but also the delights of feeding the Giraffes as well. Master of Ceremonies was delivered by Alexander Michaels who brought some order and a sense of humor to the proceedings, whilst... [Read the full story]

Gemma & David

July 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Gemma & David chose to have their wedding and reception at Esseborne Manor in the village of Hurstbourne Tarrant near Andover. Esseborne is a small independent hotel which can easily accommodate guests to provide a very private occasion. I will never forget the most amazing sunken bath it has in its honeymoon suite which can easily accommodate the bride and 3 bridesmaids at the same time creating the opportunity to have a wedding photograph that is a bit different.

Susie & Chris

June 17, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Sherfield School, on the outskirts of Basingstoke, Hampshire was the venue for this lovely wedding with a Scottish theme and dedicated piper. Sherfield School is a little different from many wedding venues because it is a private school for most of the year but thankfully opens it’s doors for weddings at the weekends. This has the advantages for many in terms of flexibility of food and arrangements offering to arrange catering and facilities or allowing you to do it yourself. Susie and Chris went for a ceremony in... [Read the full story]

Helen & Stuart – Sway, New Forest

May 20, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Helen and Stuart’s wedding was one of those delightful occasions when things just come together on the day. The ceremony at Sway Church, near Lymington in the New Forest was followed by a marque reception on the Sowley Estate with its own private lake. The most memorable element of this day was probably Stuart’s relationship with chocolate and the resulting cake and sweet assortment that littered the reception. As a sailing couple the table arrangements had a nautical theme rightly fitting with the Lymington... [Read the full story]

Steph & Paul

May 17, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Steph & Paul opted for a 4 hour package and DVD slideshow with images for their wedding at the Compass Inn in Tormarton near Swindon. This was a really fun day and gave us the opportunity of using props in the wedding photography such as space hoppers and the camper van they had hired for their honeymoon. The Compass Inn’s gardens made a nice backdrop for the “informal” formal shots outside along with the travel theme of the table decorations and cups cakes instead of traditional wedding cake (something... [Read the full story]

Sonia & Gareth

December 4, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Sonia & Gareth met at the Bridge Club whilst at university which was used as the theme for their wedding table plan. The wedding took place at Silchester House, near Reading, a delightful and intimate small hotel. Being a winter wedding we knew that the weather was going to be difficult in terms of rain and light. Originally the plan was the have the ceremony in one of the main reception rooms and the wedding breakfast in the marque erected on the lawn however, the weather was so bad that the marque ripped and could... [Read the full story]

Amelia & Brian

July 12, 2007 · Leave a Comment

In terms of time, Amelia & Brian’s wedding was probably the longest day Neil and I have done, starting the night before at the rehearsal in Norleywood near Lymington and then back to the church on the day of the wedding, starting at 10 am finally finishing around midnight as they left the party to go on to the hotel. The weather was fantastic making it much easier for us and no doubt a relief for them as the evening reception was taking place in a marque at Amelia’s parents house. Once I had sorted through... [Read the full story]
